MINIMUM ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE
– Five (5) years clinical experience
– Three (3) years of Infection Control experience preferred

MINIMUM ESSENTIAL EDUCATION
– Bachelors degree in Nursing required

REQUIRED LICENSURE / CERTIFICATIONS
– California RN license required
– Certification in Infection Control (CIC)

ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS
– Must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skill necessary to provide care/service appropriate to the age of the patients served on the assigned unit/department
– Computer proficiency to include word processing, spreadsheet and databases

JOB DESCRIPTION
a. Manages the Infection Control Program as outlined in the Annual Hospital Infection Control Plan. Responsible for the IC policy and procedures.
b. Monitors regulatory and accreditation agency standards (CDC, OSHA, APIC, etc) as well as the scientific literature for changing regulations, standards, guidance, and research results. Disseminate information and proposes necessary program changes.
c. Provides expert consultation to all hospital department and MD's in planning and evaluating patient care regarding infection, potential causes of infections, and communicable disease follow-up.
d. Utilizes scientifically proven epidemiological principles and practices by observing, investigating, and implementing control measures when an outbreak or cluster of infections is noted among staff or patients. Collaborates with the IC Committee Chair on complex issues.
e. Investigates potential infection hazards and changes of hospital infection rates; recommends and coordinates the implementation of appropriate changes; and evaluates the effectiveness of prevention and control measures. Develops and administers prospective and retrospective surveillance strategies for hospital acquires and community acquired infection.
f. Develops, revises, and coordinates implementation of Temecula Valley Hospital infection control policies and practices keeping the hospital compliant with regulatory bodies.
g. Evaluates the effectiveness of infection control activities and conducts continuous monitoring of those activities by establishing key quality indicators and designing monitoring tools (i.e. hand washing).
h. Utilizes computer based programs for tracking or reporting and disseminates results of surveillance activities, directed studies and other pertinent infection control data to the appropriate committees and personnel.
i. Designs forms, data collection tools, and record keeping systems for surveillance activities and prepares reports from collected data to identify and analyze trends of infections.
j. Identifies and communicates any environmental issues during rounds, provides feedback for resolution; participates in resolution methods as needed (i.e. EVS products and processes).
k. Reports information to Riverside County Department of Health or CDPH as needed for communicable diseases including adherence to all State and Federal Laws.
l. Participates in the evaluation of equipment and supplies according to proven Infection Control best practices criteria and standards.
m. Acts as a resource to employee health for maintaining up to date OSHA TB, blood borne pathogen standards, and immunization programs.
n. Consults with leadership and EOC experts regarding emergency plan activities in responses to influx of infectious patients and construction/remodeling and activates.
o. Develops and reviews instructional materials for infection control educational programs such as orientation content and coordinates specialized infection control training.
p. Collaborates with other UHS Infection Control staff to examine best practices and shared resources.
q. Keeps current in the field of infection control including pursuing continuing education credits and involvement with the Association for Professionals in Infection control and Epidemiology, Inc. (APIC)
r. With Human Resources assists with Infection Control components related to Employee Health.
